1. (Bot.) A genus of herbs with compound white or bluish
flowers; starwort; Michaelmas daisy.
2. (Floriculture) A plant of the genus Callistephus. Many
varieties (called China asters, German asters, etc.)
are cultivated for their handsome compound flowers.
