C. Hypocistis, Hypocistis, Asarum Hypocistis. Ord. Cistineae. A small parasitical plant, which grows in the south of France and in Greece, on the roots of the woody cistus. The juice of its fruit is acid, and very astringent. It is obtained by expression, and converted into an extract, which was called Succus Hypocistidis, and was formerly much used in hemorrhagea, diarrhoea, &c.
