-
are three depressions in the aorta-Sinus aor'tici,-and pulmonary artery- Sinus pulmona'les- immediately opposite the semilunar valves. Their use is to leave the edges of the valves free, so that they can be caught by the refluent blood. Where the aorta is about to send off the first of its large branches, at the top of the thorax, it is of great size, and has been called the Large sinus of Valsalva.
