A small North American evergreen shrub of the genus Kalmia (K. angustifolia), nat. order Ericaceae. Like many other plants of the heathwort order, it has been introduced into our gardens, and is deservedly a favorite. It has received this name, as well as that of LAMBKILL, from its leaves and shoots being deleterious to cattle.
