A French poet; born at Paris, Jan. 12, 1628; died there, May 16, 1703. He wrote a poem on "The Age of Louis the Great" (1687); a "Parallel between the Ancients and the Moderns"; and a series of immortal fairy-tales in prose: "Stories of my Mother the Goose" (1697), containing "Puss in Boots", "Red Riding Hood", "Bluebeard", "Cinderella", "Tom Thumb", etc.
