This plexus is formed by the union of the Rami communicantes of the anterior branches of the first four lumbar nerves. It is situate behind the psoas muscle, and before the transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae. It furnishes, besides the branches which proceed from the first pair, several filaments, that are distributed to the psoas muscle, to the iliacus, the integments, and glands of the groin; and three great branches-the crural, obturator, and lumbo-sacral.
