A French scholar and man of letters; born in Paris, Aug. 19, 1805; died there Nov. 25, 1895. He wrote for leading periodicals, and his best-known work is probably the "Commentary on Aristotle" (1837-70). He also published: "The Vedas" (1854); "Mahomet and the Koran" (1865); and "Philosophy in Relation to Science and Religion" (1889).
