The popular name of an elegant shrub (Ilex glabra) found on the Atlantic coast of North America. It grows from 2 to 4 feet high, has slender and flexible stems, brilliant, evergreen leaves, leathery and shining on the surface and of a lanceolate form, and produces small black berries.
