August 6, 1780. At this place General Sumter surprised the British post. The Tory regiment fled, and its panic was communicated to the British regulars. At the outset no American had more than ten bullets, but before the close of the engagement they armed themselves from the dead and wounded. Among those engaged was Andrew Jackson. This success strengthened the patriot cause in all parts of South Carolina.
