An Italian novelist; born in Treviso, June 30, 1823. Exiled after the revolution of 1848, he lived as reporter in Paris until 1854, and there wrote his novel "The Proscript" (1853); esteemed as an excellent portrayal of French life. Among his other works are: "Sweet Idleness" (1869), a picture of Venetian life in the 18th century; "Countess Savina's Kiss" (1875); "The Family of Bonifazio" (1886): all notable for facility and legitimate popularity of style. Died 1903.
