[Latin] A salt of tartaric acid; comprising the Acid t’s or Bitartrates, in which only one atom of hydrogen in tartaric acid is replaced by a base; and Normal t’s, in which two atoms of hydrogen are replaced. The t’s of potassium and of sodium and potassium are diuretic, and in large doses cathartic; those of iron and ammonium and of iron and potassium are used like other chalybeates; and the t. of antimony and potassium is the form under which antimony is usually given.
