A cyrstalline leucomaine, C2H5N (perhaps ethylene-imine, C2H4.NH) or C5H14N2, obtained from semen and various viscera. S. or its hydrochloride has been used as a nervine tonic, and to prevent auto-intoxication and in a great variety of diseases marked by deficient tissue-oxidation and diminished alkalinity of the blood. S. phosphate forms the Charcot-Newmann cyrstals (q. v.).
