The root of this plant- Pareira (Ph. U. S.) - a native of South America and the West Indies, has a sweet taste, with considerable bitterness and slight roughness. It has been recommended in nephritic and calculous affections; but it is not much used. By A. de St. Hilaire, Pareira is assigned to Cissampelas glaberrima.
