The young leaves are sometimes eaten as salad. The roots are, also, roasted and used as a substitute for coffee. The root, Taraxacum, (Ph. U. S.,) is, moreover, reputed to be aperient and diuretic; hence its vulgar names. Its efficacy is doubtful.
