A German philologist, son of Johann H.; born at Otterndorf, Oct. 29, 1779; died Oct. 20, 1822, at Heidelberg, where he was professor of philology, in succession to his father. He was a warm friend of Jean Paul Richter, and his literary executor. He completed his father's translation of Aeschylus (1826); this work, as also the "Correspondence between Heinrich Voss and Jean Paul" and "Communications regarding Goethe and Schiller, in Letters by Heinrich Voss", appeared after his death.
