A French philosophical and historical essayist and critic; born in Neuchatel. Nov. 24, 1733; died in Paris, July 15, 1815. He shows friendship to the French Revolution and the ideas of Rousseau, in "Equality" (1796); "Philosophy of Politics" (1798); "Historic Picture of the Revolution" (1815); and other well-written books.
