A small indigenous herb, Order, Labiatae, growing on dry, shady bills, from New England to Georgia, and flowering in June and July. Its medical properties are dependent upon essential oils, like the mints.
American dittany. The herb is used in infusion as a febrifuge. The essential oil is rubefacient, carminative, and diaphoretic.
