Several mineral springs exist in California, near 40 N. Lat. and 401/2 longitude west of Washington, directly upon the California trail, leading from the sink of Humboldt river to Pyramid lake. Their temperature varies from cold to almost boiling. They ebb and flow at irregular intervals; have not been analyzed; but some have the taste of a strong solution of sulphate of magnesia. They have had the singular effect of inducing blennorrhoeal symptoms, both in man and animals.
