A red, clayey earth, found not only in Armenia, but in several countries of Europe,-in Tuscany, Silesia, France, &c. It was once esteemed a tonic and astringent and was applied as a styptic. It is now, scarcely, if ever, used. It consists of argil, mixed with lime and iron.
