A Mexican poet; born about 1550; died in Spain about 1620. He gave seven years' special study to the poetical and historical literature of his own country; utilizing the facts in his historical poem "The Indian Pilgrim" (1598), in 20 cantos, describing the glories of the Aztec court and the conquest of Mexico. Prescott has given him the name of "the poet-chronicler".
