A noted Italian philosopher; born at Roveredo, Tyrol, March 25, 1797; died at Stresa, July 1, 1855. He produced some thirty volumes on ontology, theosophy, theodicy, pedagogy, supernatural anthropology, ethics, methodology, and other subjects; and he has disciples who consider his name the greatest in modern metaphysics. English translations of his "Psychology" and "Pedagogy" have appeared. But his most important work is "New Treatises on the Origins of Ideas" (1830).
