An English novelist; born at Cutcombe, March 28, 1839; died there, May, 1894. Though she became blind at the age of seven, she learned seven languages, and was a prolific writer for magazines and author of novels, composing her manuscript by the aid of a typewriter. Among the most popular of her works were: "Sir Tristram's Will" (1867); "Hearts or Coronets" (1876); "Fettered Yet Free" (1883); "A Strange Tangle" (1885).
