The compound K2SO3 + 2H2O, of bitter saline and sulphurous taste, without odor, and soluble in 4 parts of cold water. There is also an acid potassium sulphite or potassium bisulphite [Lat.], KHSO3, forming acicular crystals of sulphurous taste and neutral reaction [U. S. Ph., 1880].
