(1738-1789), was a member of the Virginia Conventions of 1774, 1775 and 1776. He represented Virginia in the Continental Congress from 1776 to 1777 and in 1779. He signed the Declaration of Independence. He was Governor of Virginia in 1781. He expended his vast estate for the colonial cause.
