A German poet; born at Tilsit, Dec. 11, 1783; died Dec. 11, 1817. He was educated as a lawyer at the University of Konigsberg; he practiced his profession until the breaking out of the war in 1813, when he joined the Prussian army, and with his stirring war-songs inspired his comrades. His "Gedichte" (1815) is a collection of these songs.
