A distinguished Italian writer, statesman, and artist; born in Turin, Oct. 15, 1798; died in Milan, Jan. 15, 1866. Of his literary productions the most noteworthy are the two historical romances "Ettore Fieramosca" (1833) and "Nicolo de' Lapi" (1841); but first in importance is his autobiography "My Recollections" (1867), translated into English by Count Maffei. Supplements to these are: "Letters to his Wife, Luisa Blondel" (1870); "to Giuseppe Torelli" (1870); "to Carlo di Persano" (1878); and "to Emanuele d'Azeglio" (1883); but especially "Italy from 1847 to 1865, Political Correspondence of M. d'Azeglio" (Paris, 1866).
