An Italian collector of folk-lore; born at Palermo, Dec. 23, 1842. He compiled and edited a "Library of Sicilian Popular Traditions" (19 vols., 1870-95), and was editor of "Archives for the Study of Popular Traditions", founded 1882. He is author of a "Bibliography of Italian Folk-Lore Literature" (1894); "Patron Festivals in Sicily" (1901).
