An Italian dramatist and descriptive writer; born in Modena in 1675; died in Paris in 1733. He published: "History of the Italian Theatre" (1728-31); "The Comedies and Genius of Moliere" (1736); "Reflections on the Theatres of Europe" (1738-50); and several others.
