a case adjourned from the District Court of Dumfries, Va., to the General Court in November, 1793. It involved the constitutionality of an act of the State Legislature of 1792, which authorized a district court in term time, or a judge thereof in vacation, to exercise the same power of granting injunctions to stay proceedings on any judgment obtained in a district court, and of proceeding to the dissolution or final hearing of such cases, as was prescribed for the High Court of Chancery. The court decided that this law was not wholly in accordance with the Constitution, but that there was no alternative for a decision between the Legislature and the judiciary except an appeal to the people.
