Same etymon. A pharmaceutical preparation, of a milky-white opaque appearance, which is composed of oil, divided and held in suspension in water by means of mucilage. Emulsions have been divided into the true and oily, and into the false or not oily; the latter being composed of resinous substances, balsams, or camphor, rubbed up with dilute alcohol, mucilage, or yolk of egg.
