A German poet, musician, and designer; born at Munich, March 7, 1807; died there, May 7, 1876. Besides several light musical dramas he wrote an opera, "The Alchemist", and a number of songs and sonatas; a volume of "Poems" (1843); "Hunting Songs" (1843); "Student Songs"; several books for children, admirable alike for literary form and artistic illustration, -e.g., "The Little Rose Garden", a prayer-book (3d ed. 1868); "A Little Book of Proverbs".
