(Zo["o]l.) Any one of numerous moths of the family Noctuid[ae], or Noctu[ae]lit[ae], as the cutworm moths, and armyworm moths; -- so called because they fly at night. -- a. Of or pertaining to the noctuids, or family Noctuid[ae].
