A French botanist and naturalist; born in Montbar, Burgundy, May 29, 1716; died in Paris, Dec. 31, 1799. He contributed to the first five volumes of Buffon's "Natural History" anatomical supplements which form, from a scientific point of view, the most important part of that work.
