A German poet and novelist; born at Stettin, 1854. He studied law at Leipsic, but was obliged to settle in Southern Europe on account of ill health. He has published the collections of poems "In Solitude" (1876), "Autumn Days in Meran" (1876), and "From Foreign Lands" (1889); the novels "At Dawn" (1880), "Gods and Idols" (1884), "The Game is Over", "Obscure Lives" (1886), and "Chords and Discords", a collection of short stories (1888). Died 1897.
