A German dialect poet; born in Nuremberg, June 3, 1736; died there, March 8, 1809. He was a saddler and harness-maker, and passed his youth in privation; but he possessed genuine poetic gifts, as shown in the pictures he has given of the lives and manners of his countrymen in the three volumes of "Poems in the Nuremberg Dialect".
