A Swiss poet; born in Eysius, Canton of Vaud, Oct. 18, 1807; died in Geneva, Jan. 7, 1876. In 1830 he published his first volume of poems, "Poemes Suisses". This was followed by "The Future" (1831); "Songs from Afar" (1833); and many others. He also wrote many works in prose. He spent most of the last years of his life in Paris.
