A German mystic and writer; born at Strasburg about 1300; died there, June 16, 1361. He entered the order of the Dominicans about 1318; studied theology at their college in Cologne, and afterward in Paris. He was banished with them from Strasburg, and went to Basel in 1339. He was reputed the greatest preacher of his time. His sermons were collected in 1498.
