(1745-1781), born in South Carolina, entered the colonial army at the outbreak of the Revolution, and when the British took possession of Charleston in 1780 was paroled. In 1781 he made an incursion against the British, was pursued by a superior force and taken prisoner. He was sentenced to death by the British without a trial and hanged.
