Ebonite; vulcanized caoutchouc which has been rendered hard and susceptible of a polish by being subjected to pressure and heat during the process of vulcanization, or by the incorporation of some other ingredient, such as tar, white lead, etc. It can be molded and rolled at a high temperature, and when cold is firm, brittie, hard, light, impermeable to liquids, and resistant to ordinary chemicals.
