Born in 1852. He was educated at Oxford, and became tutor to the children of the Princess Christian of England. He is famous for a short poem, "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes", and has published a novel, "Nephele" (New York and London, 1896), besides "Among the Flowers and Other Poems" (1872), and "Young Maids and Old China" (1888); "Minussula" (1896).
