A Bohemian dramatist and archaeologist; born at Sloup (Pirkstein), Dec. 24, 1826; died at Prague, Sept. 22, 1862. He took part in the Bohemian and Servian commotions of 1848; founded at Prague the Lumir, the only magazine in Bohemia then devoted exclusively to belles-lettres (1851); also wrote "Bohemian Antiquities" (1858). He published "The Extinction of the Premyslides" (1851). and "Dimitri Ivanovic" (1856), two successful tragedies; and left two other dramas in MS.
