A French poet and dramatist; born in Paris, Jan. 11, 1822. His maiden effort, "Cupid and Psyche" (1842), was a revelation of true poetic gifts; and in comedy he has succeeded, with "The Amorous Doctor" and "Bertha and Suzanne", in attaining felicitous literary if not theatrical effects.
