A Greek compiler of anecdotes, flourishing probably around 200-250 B. C.; native of Laerte in Cilicia. He wrote in 10 books a collection of notes and memoranda "On the Lives, Teachings, and Sayings of Famous Men", particularly the philosophers. Drawn from divers sources without any judgment or discrimination, the notes are of very unequal value. The fullest memoranda concern Epicurus, for nearly all the fragments of whom that we possess we are indebted to this compiler.
