An American clergyman and writer; born in Salem, Mass., in 1823; died in Martha's Vineyard, Mass., July 26, 1896. Among his numerous works are: "Burman Apostle" (1850); "Percy Family" (1852); "The Young Woman's Friend" (1855); "The Angel's Whispers"; "Waiting at the Cross"; "Europa, or Scenes in the Old World"; and "The Young Man's Friend".
