A well-known American novelist; born at Dosoris, L. I., 1834. Her home is in New York. She has written: "Rutledge" (1860); "The Sutherlands" (1862)-both widely read; "Frank Warrington"; "A Perfect Adonis"; "Missy"; etc. A complete edition of her novels appeared in 1885.
