Syn.: sperm cell. Any cell, animal or vegetable, which, by conjugation with another cell, causes the latter to develop into a new cell or cells. The male cell is usually actively motile, being often ciliated or flagellate, and is usually much smaller than the female cell. It includes the spermatozoid of animals and the spermatozoid and pollen grain of plants.
