Ferric valerianate, valerianate of iron, ferrum valerianicum, a dark red powder; employed in anemia in hysterical subjects in doses of gr. 1-3 (0.06-0.2).

Formed by the action of valerianic acid on oxide of iron. It is a dark brick-red powder, insoluble in water, and has been given in hysteria complicating chlorosis. Dose, from two to four grains. The Dublin Pharmacopoeia of 1850 has a formula for this salt.
