An Austrian dramatist and novelist (1802-66); born at Eger. He essayed all kinds of poetry, and in all displayed no ordinary talent, but he was deficient in correct taste and judgment. Among his lyric compositions we have: "Songs of a Hermit"; "Morning, Noon, and Night in a Poet's Life"; the dramas "Count Julian" and "Knight Shakspere"; and several novels, as "Donna Quixote, or the Life and Opinions of a Sagacious Noble Lady of Young Germany".
