A German theological writer; born at Konigsberg, June 20, 1827. He was made professor of theology at Kiel, 1863, and at Berlin, 1877. His principal writings are: "Text-Book of Biblical Theology" (1868); "Life of Jesus" (2 vols., 1882); "Introduction to the New Testament"; "Religion of the New Testament".
