A Scotch poet and novelist; born at Monikie, Forfarshire, March 1, 1767; died Sept. 12, 1829. He wrote: "Campbell, or the Scottish Probationer" (1819); "Contemplation and Other Poems" (1820); "Farmer's Three Daughters" (1822); "The Foundling of Glenthorn, or the Smuggler's Cave" (1823); "Highland Mary" (1827).
